<p>EverStart pro Randall Tharp of Gardendale, Ala., had endured three days of tough weather and wind and managed to lead the first three days of competition at the Walmart FLW Tour on Lake Okeechobee presented by Evinrude. All he needed was one more solid days weight to claim his first FLW Tour title.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Tharp caught a five-bass limit weighing 23 pounds, 2 ounces Sunday to win $  125,000 with a four-day catch of 20 bass weighing 101-12. The catch gave him the win by a massive 23-pound, 9-ounce margin over John Cox of Debary, Fla., who caught a total of 20 bass weighing 78-3 and earned $  35,000. Tharps margin of victory broke the FLW Tour record set by National Guard pro Brett Hite (20-4, Lake Toho, 2008).</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>I felt like I could catch 30 pounds a day if I fished perfect, said Tharp, who adds an FLW title to his four BFL wins and one EverStart Series victory. I would have liked to have caught more, but Im pretty tickled with the way things turned out.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>When I caught the first big one today and it put me at 19 (pounds) and I caught the second big one I didnt say anything, but when I caught the third one I knew it was over, Tharp added.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Tharp said the one constant during the tournament was the wind. High winds wreaked havoc on anglers plans as water clarity went south. Many anglers struggled to adapt and catch fish.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>It was not what you want in south Florida, Tharp said. We had a wind chill of 27 degrees this morning. The winds were sustained 20 (miles per hour) with gusts to 40. The style I was fishing is what you need to do under those conditions.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>And Tharps style of fishing just happened to be what he loves to do  use a big rod, heavy line and big weights to flip grass. Tharp fished the north end of the lake and threw a black with blue flake Bitters Baits B.F.M. paired with a 1 ?-ounce pegged sinker. Tharp said he boated eight keepers during the course of the day.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Ive done pretty good on just about every type of body of water, but I prefer to fish a grass lake, Tharp said. Any grass lake is different when you go back. You never catch them in the same places because the grass is different. Okeechobee is a prime example of that.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Ive known for a long time that if I could win just one Tour-level event this is the lake Id want it to happen on, Tharp added. So now Ive got that out of the way and I can set my sights on other places.</p>

<p>Aymon Wilcox of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., won the co-angler division and $  20,000 Saturday with a three-day total of 15 bass weighing 44 pounds, 4 ounces followed by Spiro Agouros of Peterborough, Ontario, in second place with 13 bass weighing 38-0 worth $  7,625.</p>

<p>In FLW Tour Open tournaments, pros and co-anglers are competing for valuable points that could help them qualify for the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup presented by Walmart, the world championship of bass fishing. The top five pro and co-anglers in the point standings from the four FLW Tour Open tournaments will qualify.</p>

While Central Park Dog Park is significantly larger than most city dog parks, thats not the most unique thing about it. When other dog parks are closing down during the winter months for maintenance, or sending dogs back to their cars covered in dirt and mud, Central Park Dog Park will remain open, and mud-free, regardless of the weather.</p>

Although a number of similar requests have been made by various animal rights organizations, Cleary and Krupa expect to significantly exceed their goal and present the petition in person at the DASH store in Calabasas and challenge them to take a stand for animal rights!</p>

<p>Katie Cleary is a known animal rights activist, supermodel and actress. Katie helped in passing the ban of the sale of fur in West Hollywood which is taking effect in early 2012. She has also made numerous television and film appearances including NBC&#8217;s Chuck, CSI: New York, CMTs Working Class, Americas Next Top Model, and much more. The stark reality is that much of the fur currently purchased in the US is imported from China and Russia, where no regulations are placed on the fur trade. As a result of the lack of regulations on international fur trade, it is not uncommon for fur labeled as fox or mink, originating from Asia, to be actually that of cat or dog. I want the vast majority of content, promotional dollars and effort to go into wowing them. I write them cards, send them newsletters, buy them dinners, and go grocery shopping with them. The little things contribute to relationship building and they bring in their friends. For every friend they bring in, I give them a free month of boot camp. Thats how you grow your business, Sam says.</p>

<br />Nothing sounds more impressive than a package deal. <p> While the 2012 season hasnt begun for most drivers and teams, Scott Tucker has already kicked off the New Year in dominant fashion, claiming five victories in eight races during a remarkable two-week stretch of SCCA National Championship events in Florida.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Tucker, who is coming off one of his most successful seasons to date, earning his second consecutive American Le Mans Series title and third straight SCCA National Championship crown in 2011, took his Level 5 Motorsports team to Sebring International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway for two packed weekends of racing.  The focus of the ambitious effort was to qualify the five-time national driving champion for this years Runoffs in both the Grand Sport 2 (GT-2) and D Sports Racing (DSR) categories. Each competitor needs four race finishes to be eligible for the National Championship, held annually at Road America in September.   </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In the pair of DSR races at the BFGoodrich SCCA Super Tour at Sebring on Jan. 7-8, Tucker went undefeated in his No. 55 West WX10 sports racer, winning both hard-fought battles, including one from the pole position. In Race 2, Tucker held off a charging Charles Dempsey by 0.325 seconds to take his 67th career victory.   </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>For the two 13-lap GT-2 races, Tucker showed impressive pace in his Porsche 997 Cup car, qualifying on pole for Race 1 with a 2:25.2 lap time. However, a left-front tire puncture on the first lap forced an early pit stop and swap to the backup car, which ultimately dropped him two laps back. His fortunes improved in Race 2 with a third-place finish, although a full-course caution, which led to an early checkered flag, dashed any hopes of a victory.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Just one week later, Tucker was back in action at Homestead-Miami Speedway, taking part in the Florida Region Palm Tree Double National on Jan. 13-15 with his West WX10 sports racer and Porsche 997 Cup car once again.  While another win and runner-up finish in DSR gave him a convincing lead in the National Championship standings, Tucker rebounded from the unlucky breaks at Sebring to dominate the GT-2 races at Homestead-Miami. Having started from pole in both events, Tucker led all but one lap in the two races combined, earning is 69th and 70th career victories.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>It was a real satisfying couple of weekends for us and a great way to start the season, Tucker said. The team worked real hard to put these cars together and I enjoyed some good battles on the track. We had some challenges to overcome but it all worked out in the end and Im glad to be going for my fourth National Championship in a row later this year.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>With the goal of achieving entries to the SCCA National Championships in DSR and GT-2 now complete, Tucker will head to the Runoffs at Road America on Sept. 20-23 with the opportunity of earning two additional titles to his already impressive resume, as he nears an unprecedented 75th career victory after just six years of racing.   </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Tucker and Level 5 Motorsports will now turn their attention to the start of the American Le Mans Series, with the annual Sebring Winter Test on Feb. 8-9 to kick off their quest for back-to-back LMP2 championships. Level 5 is expected to debut its new Honda Performance Development ARX-03b early next month at the two-day test.  Both of Level 5&#8242;s cost-capped LMP2 cars will be ready for the 60th annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 17, which will open the ALMS season and also serve as the start of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship.</p>

<p>&#8220;We figured this would be a fun contest between the top schools where the competition could be over programming instead of sports,&#8221; Thielen said. &#8220;Events like this add significantly to the college experience by reinforcing a joy of learning purely for the sake of increased knowledge and providing a more diverse educational experience.&#8221;</p>

<p>Over the past five years, the UN Foundations Nothing But Nets campaign has built the worlds largest grassroots network of partners and supporters to protect families in Africa from malaria. I am encouraged to see proof in the World Malaria Report 2011 that this support is saving lives. The report released by our partners at the World Health Organization this week states malaria mortality rates in sub-Saharan Africa have dropped by more than 33 percent since 2000.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>To reduce the number of malaria deaths by one-third in one decade is an extraordinary achievement, due in large part to better access to long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets. According to the new report, half of households in sub-Saharan Africa now have at least one bed net, and 96 percent of people with access to a net use it. Bed nets remain one of the most inexpensive and effective tools in the fight against malaria. Families use nets because they work.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The results mean weve pushed back the clock even furthera child now dies every 60 seconds from malaria, in contrast to only two years ago when the rate was every 30 seconds. Incredible progress in a short span of time, but one child every minute still means far too many children are dying from malaria.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Bed nets save lives and we need to make sure every family in Africa has the nets they need. Our thanks to supporters around the world who have raised nearly $  40 million to help Nothing But Nets and its UN partners deliver more than 6 million nets to families in 25 African countries. We need to build on this momentum to reach the global goal of ending malaria deaths by 2015. </p>

<p> Paternity has been pushed into the national spotlight by the recent allegations toward teen pop star Justin Bieber. While tabloids buzz with celebrity paternity stories, thousands of men across the country face the same issue daily and turn to DNA paternity testing to either confirm or refute their relationship to children.  According to DDC (DNA Diagnostics Center), the largest provider of private paternity testing worldwide, questions about paternity testing from men have increased annually and now account for about 40% of all inquiries.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>As one of the leading companies in DNA testing, were seeing an increase in calls by men seeking paternity answers, especially for cases where there are disputes or where chain of custody is important, said Dr. Michael Baird, chief science officer for DDC. In the case of DDC, were an accredited AABB laboratory that maintains a chain of custody reporting structure to ensure results of a test can be presented in court, if needed. </p>

<p>About 500,000 paternity cases were performed in the United States last year, according to the AABB (aabb.org), the professional society that accredits paternity testing laboratories, in its latest annual report. <p>If there are any questions about who the father is, a DNA test is recommended, Dr. Baird states.  About 1 out of every 3 tested alleged fathers is found to not be the biological father of a child.  After an AOP is provided to the Bureau of Vital Statistics, couples have the option of amending the document with a DNA paternity test to confirm parental rights or fathers have the option of securing a DNA test to establish paternity. However, there is a limited time for the validation to take place. Until that time, parental rights are not fully protected.</p>

Nobody could have put it any better than Mr. Nicklaus when he said, weve lost 34 percent of junior golfers and 23 percent of female players. If youre the CEO of a corporation and have those numbers, you say, what do I do?</p>

<p>Brown believes that launching a new website in these troubled economic times may not be the best business strategy, if something isnt done to keep kids playing the game, the sport could suffer irreparable losses in the future.</p>

<p>&#8220;For a kid to stick with golf on their own, theyve got to be tremendously motivated, said Brown, who said his 11-year old son chose video games over golf last summer after becoming frustrated with the sport. I mean, a kid doesnt start off playing tackle football, or step into the batters box to face a 60 mph fastball in little league. Instead, they gradually build their skills and gain confidence until their ready to actually play the sport in earnest. In junior golf, though, we throw our kids to the lions and expect them to love it.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Brown says the new junior golf website will focus on equipment, golf tips, special discounts, and new rules and golf courses intended to make the game more enjoyable for the entire family.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>For example, we wholeheartedly endorse the modified event that Nicklaus hosted earlier in the year, Brown said. It was a 12-hole tournament with the tees moved forward. And circumferences of the holes were eight inches, as opposed to 4.25 inches. The junior golfers loved the event, because they got to watch more balls drop into the cup, which is so crucial in building confidence in this game.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Brown also believes that cutting a round of golf from 18 holes to 12 holes will naturally attract more families. In todays stressful world, between work, school and shuttling the kids all over town for lessons  fewer and fewer families have time to spend five plus hours on the golf course. At Jacks event, the longest around was a little over two hours  a more reasonable time frame for busy families.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Brown says the new junior golf website will extensively cover the USGAs Tee it Forward Program that enables beginning players to move the tee forward enough to make the holes more age appropriate in length. If the game doesnt face the realities of the times and adjust accordingly, well become irrelevant as a sport. Thats why we feel this new junior golf website is so important.</p>

<p>Highlighting the show is a 1902 poster by Maurice Biais advertising a performance of the Australian-born dancer Saharet. The poster features the world-renowned performer dancing a lively can-can, her bright red dress flourishing wildly across the foreground.  Married to Jane Avril and a member of Toulouse-Lautrecs circle, Biais knew his subject well, capturing the wild and frenetic spirit of the French cabaret brilliantly. His posters are rare and few in number, and this one in particular reflects an economy and graphic power that is remarkable for the period.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>A towering poster for Naples department store Mele by Leopoldo Metlicovitz is also on display.  An elegant couple enters a ballroom in one of the most stunningly elegant posters created by Metlicovitz for Mele. The artist created about a dozen posters for the company over roughly a five-year period, and this one reflects his mastery of the art of the fashion poster.  The richness of subtle color harmonies, its dynamic composition, and grand scale make this poster a centerpiece for any wall or room.  This is one of the rarest of Mele posters, and even more importantly, this impression is free of light stains on the folds, with color as fresh as when it was printed.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Walther Kochs 1906 image of an ice-skater mid-stride is the perfect one to advertise travel to Davos, one of the hottest winter sports destinations in Switzerland.  At the time, skating was the most important winter sport as skiing was just in its infancy. The Davos Ice Stadium was famous for its many international skating events and saw a great number of world record performances there as early as 1898.  Kochs elegantly serene poster was so successful that it was used for several years, merely overprinted with event information at the bottom.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Next is Henry Le Monniers vibrant 1926 advertisement for the French wine cooperative La Chablisienne.  The poster features a beautiful woman draped in a flowing yellow dress, surrounded by grape vines  as she perches atop the globe.  Le Monnier created  dozens of posters, all in a style similar to Cappiello, but with a heightened Art Deco sensibility.  Here his cheerful and creative style comes to the fore, with the powerful geometry of the design creating an image still used today by the winegrowers.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Also starring is a playful 1912 advertisement by H.L. Roowy for Michelin, featuring the companys popular mascot Bibendum, known colloquially as the Michelin Man.  Bibendum, who first appeared in a 1896 poster by OGalop, is one of the worlds oldest trademarks and still represents the company today.  In the ad, the cigar-chomping character pedals merrily along hands-free on a bicycle, dispensing the tires that comprise his mid-section to all he passes.  The flying tires appear to leap off the page, crossing the border of the images deep blue background and overlapping the advertising copy and leaving an indelible impression on the viewer.  </p>

<p>Mark Clear, LEED-AP, Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />A graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, Clear joined UDGs Atlanta studio in 2009. Clear has a breadth of experience in architectural 3D modeling, rendering, graphic design and BIM (Building Information Modeling). His software expertise includes AutoCAD, AutoDesk Revit, Google Sketchup, Architectural Desktop, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Clears portfolio of experience is comprised of casino and restaurants, hospitality, museums and cultural centers, multi-family, office and education projects. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Jacque Edmonds, AIA, LEED-AP, Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />Bringing eight years of architectural experience, Edmonds joined the Atlanta studio in 2006. She is well-versed in several architectural software packages such as AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, Photoshop, Illustrator, Viz4, and Macromedia Flash. Edmonds portfolio includes educational, hospitality, retail, gaming, medical and commercial facilities. Involved mostly in production and construction administration, Edmonds is an important addition to any design team, coordinating efforts among all contributing members. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Elena Lasker, Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />A member of UDGs interiors team, Lasker ensures continuity in design from the initial ideas through the finished product. Her body of work includes projects in hospitality, gaming, themed entertainment, cultural centers, museum design and office buildings. Lasker lends her expertise in facility programming and analysis, space planning, design development, Cadd drawing, product selection and specification, and installation coordination. She is noted for her passion for artistic presentations that clearly express project ideas to clients. </p>

<p>Matt Mitchell, NCARB, LEED-AP, Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />One of UDGs newest hires, Mitchell brings 20 years of experience to the Atlanta studio. Previously, Mitchell worked on such varied projects as religious and educational facilities, mixed-use developments, office buildings and sports stadiums. Prior to relocating to Atlanta, Mitchell had his own architecture practice, which placed in the top five in the Monument to the Third Millennium international design competition. Mitchells strengths lie in fast-track project management and his technical expertise in delivering creative concepts into reality. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Jana Rubin, Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />Rubin has a proven track record of creating successful marketing campaigns and is known for her ability to organize marketing data and serve as a strong team player in the pursuit of projects. Rubin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mercer University in Atlanta, and she earned her Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) designation from the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). Rubin is also a member of the Atlanta Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW). </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Elroy Sutherland, Senior Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />Sutherland has over two decades of architectural experience with expertise in developing program requirements, code review and compliance, design development, consultant coordination, project management, and construction administration. Today, Sutherland focuses on project management. He especially enjoys the problem-solving aspects of this position, and focuses on cost control in order to maximize the power of a clients budget. His creativity, attention to detail, and analytical skills make him an ideal leader for any assignment. Sutherland oversees UDGs hospitality, education, and gaming projects. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Luc Helterbrand, Registered Architect, Senior Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />Helterbrand has over 25 years of design and project management experience. His projects include casinos, corporate interiors, commercial buildings, and high-end residential projects. In addition, he has taken part in master planning and conceptual design for hospitality, government, and health care clients. Helterbrands responsibilities include design and presentation. He is primarily involved in interior architecture, though, as a registered architect, he is accomplished in all aspects of architectural design. </p>

<p>Pj Hall, CPA, Senior Associate, UDG:&#13;<br />
<br />UDGs CFO, Hall, has over 25 years of experience in management-level accounting with multi-million dollar companies.  Hall, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), joined UDG in 2006 where she provides oversight to the firms finance and human relations teams. </p>
